Fairfield Area scores big in 2013 SMH Good Food Under $30

Fairfield restaurant scoops “Best New Restaurant”.

I’m so proud that my local Fairfield-Cabramatta area seems to be going from strength-to-strength in the food stakes.  This year, Tona Inthavong’s delicious Green Peppercorn Laos/Thai restaurant takes out the prestigious Best New Restaurant award in the 2013 SMH Good Food Under $30 (GFU$30) guide (formerly Everyday Eats).

They deserve it, Tona and Sarah have done an amazing job at Green Peppercorn. The long queues most nights are testament to their success.  Noodlies, Sydney food blog was the first to review Green Peppercorn see below my interview with Tona last year.

The award is a wonderful reflection on the great food in the local area that I love and live in. It’s on top of last year’s SMH Everyday Eats’ Best Eat Street going to John Street, Cabramatta.

This year, GFU$30 features over restaurants from the Fairfield-Cabramatta area and remarkably, at least eight of them are new listings for 2013, including probably the best kept secret and hardest restaurant to find in Sydney, the cryptically named U.E. Chinese Restaurant.  But never fear, follow the video instructions below to find this hidden gem.

The food featured in this year’s guide is breath-taking in its diversity – at least 11 cultures and cuisines Laos, Thai, Chilean, Filipino, Peruvian, Italian, Cambodian, American, Korean, Chinese and of course Vietnamese.

SMH Good Food Under $30 is out Tuesday 12 March 2013.
