Once Upon a Time in Cabramatta attracts more than one million viewers nationally
The new documentary series Once Upon a Time in Cabramatta has proved to be an audience
hit, premiering last night (Sunday 8 January) with a national audience of more than one million
people across SBS ONE and SBS TWO*.
The first episode of the three part series achieved a national average audience of 786,000
(626,000 metro audience and 160,000 regional audience) on SBS ONE, according to overnight
OzTam data. A Vietnamese subtitled version of the series simulcast nationally on SBS TWO
received a national average audience of 63,000 (41,000 metro and 22,000 regional viewers).
Once Upon a Time in Cabramatta is the untold story of how the Vietnamese community
overcame adversity and found their place in modern Australia. The first episode of the series is
the third highest rating overnight program for SBS in the 12 months (topped only by the Tour de
France in July 2011).
The series was also a sensation on social media, with #onceuponatimeSBS trending #2
worldwide on Twitter during the broadcast (according to Twitter.com). The series was also
trending in Australia with many viewers reflecting on their own memories of living or visiting
Cabramatta.
Once Upon a Time in Cabramatta continues Sunday 15 and 22 January at 8.30pm on SBS
ONE, with a Vietnamese subtitled version continuing to be simulcast on SBS TWO.
