I was first introduced to Jackie M via the delicious nasi lemak at Malaysia Kitchen a few months ago. I hadn’t hear of Jackie M before and was pleasantly surprised to find she’s located in Concord, outside the usual CBD food ring. Sydney noodlies food blog had to visit because after all, my motto is “uncovering authentic, diverse food and culture all around Sydney” – and that definitely means outside the CBD!
Jackie M does a roaring trade in food catering, pastes and sauces and she distributes through various markets, including Leichhardt and Sydney night noodle markets.
Jackie opened her restaurant and takeaway in Concord due to demand from customers. It’s only open for dinner between Thursday and Saturday, giving an immediate sense of exclusiveness.
The curry puffs came warm, well cooked on the outside, and extra pipping hot on the inside, which is a pretty good feat. I loved the pastry and delicious filling.
The chicken satay sticks had that smoky fresh off the street aroma and taste, just a tad burnt on the very outer edges that gave it extra oomph. The satay sauce was relatively mild, allowing you to pour it on thick over the chicken.
The beef rendang was probably my favourite, rich, complex and oh-so-more-ish, the perfect consistency for me, on the thicker side – great with rice.
Murtabak is a favourite order when we go to Jimmy’s Kitchen, that is, if they haven’t sold out! Murtabak is roti that is filled with egg and onion, tonight we chose chicken. This dish is relatively mild in taste and would work for those who are looking for a substantial, but mild dish. I loved the side pickles.
Jackie is without a doubt a driven business woman who is passionate about her food. She works hard enough between catering business and the markets, and now the new ‘direct-to-the-public’ restaurant outlet. And she’s smart, opening the restaurant Thursday to Saturday ensure Jackie M is there at the busy end of the week, plus it gives the place a sense of casual exclusivity and helps justify her premium pricing.

Yum yum… drooling. Jackie M is my hero 😉 Very nice Thang. You are so lucky. Will have to come up to Sydney soon.
Opening times may be a little restrictive unless you have transport.. only dinner thu-sat
you've inspired me to try and find the time this weekend to write my review of the place 🙂
Looking forward to reading it, Simon
I hadn't heard of this place either until the Malaysian Kitchen event. Is it worthy of a trek all the way out there though? I see you mentioned premium pricing but not given an indication of the actual pricing of the meal you had.
Hi Joey, some highlights on menu, but not so easy to get to unless you drive.
I like it because it's in the 'burbs…
$16 for rendang, $10 for 4 satay sticks, $75 for five dishes that we had.
I've never noticed this place when I'm in Concord, probably as I make a beeline to Chilli Jam straight away. Will definitely, give this place a try when I'm up for Malaysian next. Thanks, Thang.
Just bear in mind Dumpling Girl that they only open Thu-Sat, thanks.
