Chilli and Spicy is yet another Shanghai restaurant in Chinatown. It’s located in the Breakfree on George in Haymarket, with entrances on both George and Sussex streets. Normally I avoid hotel restaurants like the plague, but we hate queueing even more.
The layout is pretty flash considering it’s in a Breakfree hotel chain and surprisingly the food was not bad. It was Sunday lunch and I ordered the special lunch box of spicy beef, which came with well everything, roasted peanuts for starters, broad beans stir fried, rice and even three slices of orange for dessert. Prices were reasonable too.
I was a particular fan of the two side dishes we ordered, shredded chicken in Shanghai chilli sauce (above) and cucumber in Shanghai chilli sauce (below). Both tasted authentic, no attempt to westernise for the hotel guests. And the service was warm and polite to boot, the only blot on the experience was the random wait between courses.

That cucumber looks delicious. I had always thought Chinese cuisine eschewed raw vegetables but am recently finding out that I was happily wrong. Szechuan pickled vegetables and Northern-style potato or seaweed salads are so good.
Wow, this looks really good! I had no idea there was a restaurant at the Breakfree Hotel. Was it cheap cheap, or a bit on the pricey side?
Hey Melba Toast, it's actually neither.. not overpriced, but not cheap.. nice surrounds and no queues!
Nice Information and really helpful. I have also subscribed the RSS of the website to get regular updates, Looking more information on the same!
