With Walter away for the next few days I’ve had to dine alone.  Tonight, I thought I’d try a new restaurant in Canley Vale called De Xoi Xa.  I quite that they’ve kept the name all in Vietnamese.

It’s a Monday night and it’s very quiet, although in their defence all the local restaurants are quiet (except the always busy Pizza Hut!).

I ordered shaken beef (bo luc lac) in red rice.  The beef is marinated with liberal garlic added, served glistening – a smell that’s guaranteed to make you salivate.  They offered two types of sauces, a traditional fish sauce, that is sweeter than normal and black soy, it’s different you usually get salt and pepper.  Both sauces works very well with the beef and rice.

… oh and did I mention the over the top blue/purple light fixture?
