It’s fast Mexican food, but, according to Guzman y Gomez (GYG), not as you know it. Sure there’s a counter and the food comes out quickly, but GYG would readily point out they use “restaurant quality” ingredients, guacamole are prepared daily in store and their menu is made to order – “you can leave out what you don’t want”. Oh and they’re fully licensed, how could you have a Mexican meal without a margarita or imported mexican beer? Noodlies, Sydney food blog went along to their Newtown branch recently.
The decor is spesh too, hip raw brick, communal table, nice subdued tones and black and a predominantly yellow and black corporate look.
Walter‘s soft shelled chicken tacos looked stunning, the diced tomato looked so arresting! Marinated chicken, black beans, tomato and salsa.. what’s not to like?
The Steak Guerrero Burritos was delish and easy to eat. It was tightly wrapped, the beef stood out thanks to the spicy chipotle marinade, tomatillo salsa added more flavour and brought together the remaining ingredients.
With most choices on the menu around $10 mark, GYG really does successfully pull off the ‘restaurant food’ at fast feed prices, in cool surrounds. Come without big expectations and you’ll leave very satisfied.

You’re starting to venture away from Vietnamese food 🙂
I love all food, Simon.. I’ve got to say, really did like GYG!
Love Guzman y Gomez – so much better than lots of other Mexican restaurants in Sydney that are far more expensive!
Glad you agree! I thought it was pretty good too 🙂
